Jeff and Inga Get Married

Excellent

We went to Jeff and Inga's wedding and had a fantastic time. I could tell you all about it but you were probably there. The one thing I will say is that it made me want to get married to Michelle again.

That's me with my wife. SHE'S AWESOME. She's going to be done with her doctorate classes in like two weeks. DID I SAY SHE WAS AWESOME? Because she is. In two weeks I'm going to be married to Dr. Awesome or something similar. Now that's awesome!

If you missed it, this bike ride was ridiculously hard. Seriously! Hard! Like one stretch last over two hours of climbing. And at the top my legs started to cramp! And I was brutally exhausted and said things like:

"Let's just get this shit over with."

Oh yeah, and it was awesome and we had sushi for lunch in the middle of the ride. I'm in for next year.

There is beauty in the strangest of places.

Blink.

Because if you don't see it, you're not looking at the whole picture. That's how I view the world. When I lost my job almost 3 years ago at Ogilvy I wasn't alone. It was a firing squad and every few minutes a new person was let go. Once it was over, a message would be written by the recently fired employee and sent out to the entire company like a going away sentiment. In that moment it was easy to be vindictive. I should know because I was the last one to be downsized. I watched and listened for hours before my name was called. In that time I saw many messages float through the email system. Among the most memorable was:

"Never has a company done so little for so many."

I agree and I think it was a fantastic last sentiment, though I chose not to leave on those terms. My message simply said:

"There will be beautiful things."

I tell this story not because I was right and others were wrong. I tell it because that is how I choose to view the world, even when it is hard to see. Since we left Portland we've gone through ups, downs, and everything in between, but there have always been beautiful things to focus on. You never know where the world will take you. This time it's decided to take us full circle, back to the place we've always called home.

Now that's a beautiful thing.

Biking the Boardwak

Michelle and I met up (I say met up because I was in Vegas working and she was finishing her final exams in Oakland) in Manhattan Beach for some well deserved chill time. If you ever wondered what we'd look like eating up the boardwalk on two low riders, now you don't need to wonder. One of the days we road from Manhattan Beach to Santa Monica pier and back. Fun stuff. It's always surprising to me how refreshing these little 3 day weekend trips can be, getting out of the house, relaxing with your best friend and just having a good time. No pressure. No schedules. One day we even had pizza delivered to our place.Yup, yup. Let's do it again. The pizza and the vacation.

Why Traceability? for HarvestMark

Here's the latest and greatest. An animation I did with Kamp Grizzly for HarvestMark. Work is CRAZY BUSY right now. But fun. We're making all sorts of things and it is satisfying to create stuff like this. This is the first animation/motion graphics piece I've ever done. I think it turned out really well.

You can now find HarvestMark traceable enabled produce in all Kroger stores. They own stores like Ralphs, Fred Meyers, Kroger, and so on. They did $78 billion worth of business in 2008. That's a lot of produce. Go to your local market and trace some food. This HarvestMark thing I've been working so hard on seems to be catching on. We've got a long way to go, but we're moving forward.

Enjoy the video. It was a blast to make.

40 MPH Wind Gusts? Sounds Like Fun.

We got back from the holiday rush and settled in to a couple weeks of work and school. Michelle has started her last year of classes. It’s amazing how hard that girl works. She definitely earns it. Standing next to her as she climbs this mountain I can attest to the fact that she is amazing. She’s almost finished and soon will be a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Yeah!

I went back to work and tried to comprehend every project I have set up for this year. It’s a mountain of work. Awesome things are coming. But in the meantime, if you haven’t seen my final project of 2009, The Gift of Growing Time Lapse Video and Website, take a look. It was, at times, a herculean task. But, along with a good group of partners, we did it. That was last year, and now I’m on to bigger and better things. Stay tuned.

It’s not all work and school. As you can see by the video above, sometimes there’s some play involved too. Even when it storms there are good times to be had. Here’s to a beautiful 2010. Let’s have some fun and help make the world a better place.

Today begins a new day

Happy New Year!

Just a quick blog to exclaim a few things.

First, today is the first day of my last year of school. Woo Hoo!!!!

Second, Caspian is amazing. He is creating some awesome things at YottaMark. You have to check this out: http://www.giftofgrowing.com/

Next, our friends and family are amazing. Carson is now 14 months old and the sweetest, cutest nephew I could ever ask for. Jackson is 6 months old and is a super over achiever, not mention ADORABLE! Genevieve is the sweetest little pea pod of a neice at 3 weeks (?)

Then I have to give a big shout out to all of our friends who continue to amaze me in their parenting skills: Jessica and Michael, Mindy and Eric, Yvonne and Scott, Ryan and Christen, Gabe and Sara, Mark and Sarah, Michael and Courtney and soon to be parents: Becky and Sean, Annie and Andrew.

Am I missing anyone?

Wow, I'm really looking forward to 2010. It's going to be a great year.
